Gianandrea Noseda

Gianandrea Noseda has been General Music Director of the Zurich Opera House since the 2021/22 season. In addition, he is Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, he became Music Director of the newly founded Tsinandali Festival and the Georgian Pan-Caucasian Youth Orchestra. From 2007 to 2018, Noseda served as General Music Director of the Teatro Regio di Torino, where he artistically reshaped the opera house during his tenure. Noseda has conducted the world’s leading orchestras (Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic) as well as at the most prestigious opera houses (La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House) and festivals (BBC Proms, Edinburgh, Salzburg, and Verbier). He has also held leading positions with the BBC Philharmonic (Chief Conductor), the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (Principal Guest Conductor), the Mariinsky Theatre (Principal Guest Conductor), and the Stresa Festival (Artistic Director). His discography comprises more than 80 CDs, with a special focus on the "Musica Italiana" project, which features neglected 20th-century Italian repertoire. Born in Milan, Noseda is a Commendatore al Merito della Repubblica Italiana and received the Order of Merit of the City of Milan in 2024. In 2015, he was named "Musical America’s Conductor of the Year," was awarded "Conductor of the Year" at the 2016 International Opera Awards, and received the Puccini Prize in 2023. In the same year, the Oper! Awards honored Noseda as "Best Conductor," particularly recognizing his interpretations of the first two "Ring" operas at the Zurich Opera House.

Sol Gabetta zählt zu den gefragtesten Cellistinnen ihrer Generation. Sie wurde in Argentinien geboren und studierte in Basel und Berlin. Nach ihren jüngsten Residenzen bei Radio France, der Sächsischen Staatskapelle Dresden und den Bamberger Symphonikern gastierte sie in der vergangenen Saison bei den BBC Proms Japan, mit der Staatskapelle Berlin und Edward Gardner, den Bamberger Symphonikern und Jakub Hrůša sowie mit dem Philharmonischen Orchester Oslo und Klaus Mäkelä. Als leidenschaftliche Verfechterin neuer Werke präsentierte Sol Gabetta 2022 bei Radio France die Uraufführung des für sie komponierten Cellokonzerts von Francisco Coll. Im selben Jahr wurde sie in der Tonhalle Zürich mit dem Europäischen Kulturpreis geehrt. Bei den Salzburger Osterfestspielen 2018 wurde sie mit dem Herbert-von-Karajan-Musikpreis ausgezeichnet, 2019 erhielt sie einen Opus Klassik. Im Mittelpunkt von Sol Gabettas Arbeit steht die Kammermusik. Zuletzt trat sie etwa mit Isabelle Faust und Alexander Melnikov im Trio, mit ihrem langjährigen Konzertpartner Bertrand Chamayou sowie mit Kristian Bezuidenhout und Francesco Piemontesi auf. Als künstlerische Leiterin zeichnet sie für das Solsberg Festival sowie für das Festival Presenza im LAC Lugano verantwortlich. Sol Gabetta spielt auf mehreren italienischen Meisterinstrumenten aus dem frühen 18. Jahrhundert, darunter ein Cello von Matteo Goffriller von 1730, Venedig, das ihr vom Atelier Cels Paris zur Verfügung gestellt wurde, und seit 2020 das berühmte «Bonamy Dobree-Suggia» von Antonio Stradivarius aus dem Jahr 1717, eine grosszügige Leihgabe der Stradivari-Stiftung Habisreutinger. Seit 2005 unterrichtet sie an der Musik-Akademie Basel.

Abstract

With dazzling variety and diverse formats, the extensive concert programme presents itself to audiences. In large symphonic forces, the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House can be heard in seven Philharmonic Concerts, alternating between the Zurich Opera House and the Tonhalle. Internationally renowned soloists and guest conductors devote themselves to the great works from Beethoven to Strauss, as well as to fascinating discoveries from the concert repertoire. A special focus is placed on the Prokofiev cycle, created in collaboration with the Tonhalle Orchestra. Three concerts by Orchestra La Scintilla on period instruments, together with a series of gala and special concerts – including one with the Children’s Opera Orchestra – further enrich this wide-ranging programme.

In smaller and more individual formations, musicians from the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House appear in the popular chamber concerts, which take place on Sunday mornings and Monday evenings. The Ensemble Opera Nova brings works from the late twentieth and the twenty-first centuries to the studio stage. The concert programme is rounded off by the song recitals, where some of the most beautiful and distinctive voices of our time can be heard.
