Daniele Rustioni studied organ, composition and piano in Milan, as well as conducting with Gilberto Serembe. Since the beginning of the 2025/26 season, he has been Principal Guest Conductor at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he made his debut in 2017 with "Aida". Prior to that, he held the position of Principal Conductor at the Opéra National de Lyon for eight seasons until 2025. Daniele Rustioni began his career as a Jette Parker Young Artist at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, where he assisted Antonio Pappano. This was followed by principal positions at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, the Orchestra della Toscana and, until 2024, the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast. From 2021 to 2023, he was Principal Guest Conductor at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. In 2013, he was named “Young Artist of the Year” at the International Opera Awards, followed by the award in the category “Best Conductor” in 2022. Daniele Rustioni has already made guest appearances at the most internationally renowned opera houses, including La Scala in Milan, the Teatro La Fenice, the Opéra Bastille and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. Engagements in the symphonic repertoire have taken him to the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, where he will be Principal Guest Conductor for the 2025/26 season. His discography includes an album with Aigul Akhmetshina and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as a recording of Bellini's first opera, "Adelson e Salvini". At Zurich Opera House, he has conducted "Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci" and "Madama Butterfly", among other works.
