Abstract
For the talented young dancers of the Ballett Zürich, it is always a special challenge not only to work on the existing repertoire, but also to be immediately involved in creating new pieces. This varied evening will present three energetic works, choreographed especially for the Junior Ballett.
In Echo of Elements, Filipe Portugal, Ballett Zürich’s charismatic soloist, explores a famous composition by John Adams. Fearful Symmetries has become the American minimalist’s most-choreographed score. Placing the four elements – fire, water, air and earth – at the centre of his choreography, Filipe Portugal examines how they interact in a series of emotionally charged pas de deux.
The Stuttgart dancer Louis Stiens has pursued a highly successful career as a choreographer for some years. In Wounded, he reflects on current developments in youth culture. He has successfully set touching solo and group sequences to a heterogeneous mixture of music that contrasts pop songs with a Bach cello sonata.
For Submerge, Goyo Montero has taken inspiration from the fascinating world of diving. The Spanish choreographer, who is currently director of the Nuremberg Ballet, traces the various strata of depth and time through which a diver passes. Taking as his point of departure his experience of a new level of self-reflection, he has the dancers traverse four different levels in which they are obliged to continuously redefine the relationship between group dynamics and individuality for themselves.
