Abstract
The second chamber concert of the new season features a programme centred on Beethoven’s Piano Quartet in E-flat major, WoO 36 No. 1. The 14-year-old composed this youthful work in Bonn in 1785, taking Mozart’s violin sonatas as his model. Alongside Mozart, the German composer Franz Xaver Sterkel can also be considered an important influence on the young Beethoven. Sterkel’s rarely heard Piano Quartet complements the programme, together with Franz Schubert’s String Trio in B-flat major, D 471.
