Abstract
With “Monster’s Paradise,” a music-theatre work by the Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth is being presented at the Zurich Opera House for the first time. One week before the premiere, the ensemble Opera Nova presents chamber works by this outstanding composer of our time. Neuwirth’s music moves between contemporary sound research, political commentary, and playful transgression of boundaries. Works such as “HOOLOOMOOLOO” for ensemble in three groups, “Magic flu-idity” for flute and Olivetti typewriter, or the “Hommage à Klaus Nomi” for countertenor and chamber orchestra stand as exemplary representatives of different phases of the composer’s creative output.
