Performance visit: "See the music, hear the dance" – 28 May 2027

Famous orchestral scores by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Benjamin Britten and Bohuslav Martinů form the musical heart of the triple bill "See the music, hear the dance". With its pure beauty and perfectly staged formations of female dancers, Balanchine’s legendary "Serenade" continues to captivate audiences. Cathy Marston’s "Against the Tide" was created for The Royal Ballet in London and explores Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto and the circumstances surrounding its composition. In "Paz de la Jolla", created entirely in the spirit of Balanchine and set to music by Bohuslav Martinů, Justin Peck, Resident Choreographer of New York City Ballet, celebrates the atmosphere of California’s beaches.

This workshop series offers a practical, movement-based approach to the three choreographic works. Participants will spend a great deal of time improvising and dancing, getting to know, explore and deepen their understanding of the artistic signatures of the three choreographers. Dancers from Zurich Ballet will also provide insights into the creation and background of the works, and naturally the programme includes a shared visit to a performance of "See the music, hear the dance".

No previous dance experience is required. Please wear comfortable clothing or sportswear. Changing rooms and showers are not available.
