Florian Helgath has established himself as one of the leading choral conductors of his generation. He gained formative musical experiences in his hometown of Regensburg, where he was a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen. He continued his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. He achieved international recognition as a prizewinner in competitions such as the Eric-Ericson Prize in Sweden (2006) and the International Competition for Young Choral Conductors in Budapest (2007). From 2009 to 2015, Florian Helgath conducted the Danish Radio Choir in Copenhagen and from 2008 to 2016 the Via Nova Choir Munich. Since 2011, he has been the artistic director of ChorWerk Ruhr and was appointed artistic director of the Zürcher Sing-Akademie in 2017. With these two ensembles, he devotes himself to choral music of all periods, from a cappella repertoire to the great choral works of the symphonic genre. He regularly appears as a guest conductor with leading vocal ensembles such as the RIAS Chamber Choir, Bavarian Radio Choir, Choir of Radio France, The Norwegian Soloists’ Choir, and Netherlands Radio Choir, and has collaborated with orchestras including the Munich Radio Orchestra, WDR Funkhausorchester, and Zürcher Chamber Orchestra. On the opera stage, he has conducted "Earth Diver" with ChorWerk Ruhr and Muziektheater Transparant at the Ruhrtriennale, as well as Philip Glass’ "Einstein on the Beach" at Theater Dortmund. Florian Helgath’s discography includes a number of award-winning recordings; his interpretations have been honored with prizes such as the ICMA and ECHO Klassik and were nominated for a Grammy in 2018.
